"A Journey of a Thousand Miles Begins with The First Step" Choosing a School Choosing the right Karate School for your child can be a difficult decision for many parents. Parents have as many reasons to send a child to a school as their are schools and programs here on Long Island. My best guess is that Nassau & Suffolk Counties have over 500 schools and programs that teach martial arts and self defense. Martial Arts Instructors There are many ways to refer to a Martial Arts Instructor. The most common term used in referring or addressing your instructor is "sensei".The title sensei to most means teacher or instructor.
