Martial Arts Instructors
There are many ways to refer to a Martial Arts Instructor. The most common term used in referring or addressing
your instructor is "sensei".The title sensei to most means teacher or instructor. I prefer the Eastern
meaning "One who has walked the path before me".In my opinion your sensei is the most important part
of Martial Arts Training. A Black Belt in itself does not qualify anyone as an instructor. A Martial Arts Instructor
"must" not only have solid martial arts skills but also have strong inter-personal skills to best pass
on his art and philosophy. Body and Mind should be trained in unison therefore a teacher must above all be a Master
Communicator. This means that when teaching a martial art technique the instructor must also fully teach it's applications
and consequences.
I believe that the BEST Instructors are also good role models. They have a positive attitude and also keep their
personal appearance and physical fitness to the "highest standards". In my schools I tell my Instructor
Staff to lead by example. My Instructor Staff also represent our schools in Karate and Kung Fu Tournaments,MMA,Judo
and Kickboxing Events. This lets our student base know that we constantly train at the highest levels and compete
against the best. This helps us keep our material (katas) sharp and fresh and our technique strong . An Instructor
should pass on the Samurai Code of Good Citizenship and Respect for others. When entering or exiting your dojo
, always bow to show respect .
